Some 33 kilometres northeast of Pafos town is the famous village of Panayia. The village is built of limestone in a mountainous area at an altitude of 850 metres above sea level. The village is well-known for vineyards cultivation and wine-making.
A large part of the village belongs to the evergreen Pafos forest, known for its fresh and clean air. The surrounding area is dominated by historical churches and monasteries. Among them, there is the Ayios Nicolaos Monastery, the Monastery of Chrysoroyiatissa, and the church of Ayios Georgios. Makarios III Cultural Centre and the Ethnarch house are worth a visit.
