Nowy Sacz is the capital of the area known as the Polish "Tuscany". With a 700 year cultural heritage, three mountain ranges covered with forests, three mountain rivers (Dunajec, Poprad and Kamienica), many health resorts and ski lifts, it acts as a good centre-base for exploring the surrounding region.
Nowy Sacz is the third biggest city in Lesser Poland. The city was founded back in the 13th century. It gained more importance one century later when King Casimir the Great built a castle there. In communist times it was the capital of the Nowosądeckie Voivodeship, and is now trying to rebuild prestige by developing universities.
