Visitors can wander through woods, saunter through picturesque villages of honey sandstone, throw pebbles in a stream or build sandcastles on the beach.

With over 1,400 miles (almost 2,300 km) of paths and tracks to choose from this wonderful corner of North Yorkshire is overflowing with opportunities for walking, cycling and horse riding.

In a region where local culture and traditions are strong there are signs of past generations, historic abbeys, embattled castles, churches, crosses and ancient routes.

The North York Moors has many excellent old pubs serving traditional pub food (including Yorkshire puds!) and a great choice of real ale.  

Getting Around

For the more active, the best way to explore the Moors is either on foot or by bicycle. Touring with your own vehicle provides maximum flexibility though limited local bus services do operate between major centres.
