Home to over 350 species of birds, Mindo is one of the most gratifying places in Ecuador for birdwatching.
Mindo is a district in the canton of Los Bancos, 84 kilometres west of Quito, with a rapidly growing tourist industry based on Ecotourism in the Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest. Small commercial enterprises exhibiting butterflies, hummingbirds, orchids and bromeliads abound. The Mindo area ranges from approximately 1400 to 4780 metres above sea level.
Attractions in Mindo
The most popular attractions are typical of the cloud forest flora and fauna. Mindo boasts incredible varieties of hummingbirds and other species. Among the birds native to Mindo are the rare and exotic cock-of-the-rock, the toucan-barbet, and the golden-headed quetzal.
