The Livingstone Mountains are a low-altitude chain that border Lake Nyasa. Remote and difficult to reach, climbing is largely uncharted and for the most part the area remains unexplored by trekkers and guides.
Lake Nyasa at the foot of the Livingstone Mountains was discovered by Dr Livingstone; however, Livingstone never reached the mountains due to turning their boat back in disgust at the death and destruction caused by the slave trade.
Later the mountains were named the Livingstone Mountains by a Royal Naval officer who claimed that they were the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.
