The island of Korcula is situated just over a mile from the mainland of Croatia across the Peljesac Channel. Originally covered in pine trees, the island was settled by the Greeks around 400BC and at one time came under Venetian rule.

Korcula town, the historical centre of the island, is a wonderful walled city comprised of narrow streets and medieval buildings. The city is claimed to be the birthplace of the legendary explorer Marco Polo and is host to year round festivals such as Korcula Carnival, music festivals and yachting regattas.

Windsurfing and yachting are popular activities here with one day or longer sailing excursions available as well as scuba diving expeditions.

Korcula is highly recommended
