Located in the south-western corner of Uganda, Kisoro is a good base for Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and is also an important stopping point on the route into either Rwanda or the Democratic Republic of Congo where gorilla tracking is offered in Parc Des Volcans and Parc Des Virunga.
The town is surrounded by the Mufumbiro Mountains and whilst in itself is not spectacular, the scenery and location make it a draw for visitors. The main economy in the area is agriculture with most of the population engaged in small scale subsistence farming.
