Located in Morocco's south, just a one day drive from Marrakech (or just a couple of hours drive from Ouarzazate), the landscape of the Jebel Saghro is simply spectacular. Highlights include a glimpse of the Tadaout n'Tablah mountains and an amazing upright rock pinnacle named 'Bab n'Ali' - translated as the 'Gates of Ali'. This dramatic volcanic landscape is contorted with strange formations, dramatic fairy pinnacles, spires and rocky outcrops. The contorted landscape of table mountain mesas and bare plateaux provide many a wonderful photo opportunity.

Sculptured by nature from ancient volcanic mountains over millions of years, the Jebel Saghro have developed into a popular winter trekking destination for those seeking true wilderness. When the High Atlas mountains become cold and snowbound in the winter, the lower-altitude range of Saghro, on the edge of the Sahara, cools down providing a perfect climate for walkers, hikers and trekkers. Like the High Atlas, mules carry camping equipment, food and luggage whilst local guides will lead the way on a variety of routes. Jebel Saghro mountain biking has also developed as a popular activity in this area.

Getting Around

The Jebel Saghro can be accessed from several places - popular bases being El Kelaa M'gouna and Nekoub (N'kob). From Boumalne du Dades a minor piste road leads to the Tizi n'Tazazert from where access to the Bab n'Ali is possible. The road continues to Nekoub - a quite wonderful drive. Allow a day to drive to the Jebel Saghro from Marrakech.
