Ise-Shima National Park is located in the Kansai region of Honshu island, on and around Shima Peninsula. The park covers 518 sq. km and incorporates subtropical vegetation, small islands, bays and inlets. In the small town of Ise are the famous Ise Grand Shrines, Japans most sacred shines, known by their individual names of Naiku and Geku. Dating from the 3rd and 5th centuries these shrines are set in ancient forests of giant cryptomeria trees.
The first cultured pearl was produced on Pearl Island in Toba Harbor at the beginning of the 20th century. On the island you can visit the Pearl Museum and see diving demonstrations.
Ago Bay is one of the most scenic spots of the park from where you can take boat trips around its islets and pearl-cultivating oyster rafts.
