A dramatic vista greets travellers heading to the coast from Hanoi – incredible Halong Bay. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site such is the magnificence of the karst landscape of some 3000 islands that rise from the waters of the bay. It’s beauty is remarkable and a visit a must for anyone in the north.

Local legend says that in the time the Vietnamese were struggling against the Chinese invaders, the gods sent dragons to help to defend them and their lands. Spitting jewels from their mouths these jewels into the bays islands forming a great wall against the invaders and thus protecting the Vietnamese people.

Romantic though it is the reality is more down to earth: the islands are made or eroded limestone and bear a resemblance to Phang Nga Bay in Thailand. Nevertheless the myths and legends combined with the sheer beauty make up for the facts.

Attractions in Halong Bay

Cat Ba National Park, caves and grottos are the main attractions. This is a place to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Cat Ba itself is the largest island in the bay and has many lakes, waterfalls and caves, whilst the National Park is home to around 20 species of mammal and rare birds.

Activities in Halong Bay

Most people come to enjoy the water and islands, so head out on a cruise or better still a kayaking trip. Walking in Cat Ba National Park is also popular.

Relaxing

The island are the perfect environment in which to relax; an evening junk trip as the sun sets is unforgettable.

Getting Around

It’s best to choose a local Travel Expert carefully in Hanoi rather than arrange something on spec locally, especially if wanting to kayak. In such cases all transport will be included for you, taking away the need to mess around with buses.

Day 1: Hanoi - Halong - CatBa ( L,D)
AM: 8h00 depart to Halong Bay by Bus. Arrive at 11h30, Get on boat. Start cruising. Lunch on boat.
PM: Cruise around the bay on the way to CatBa, visit ThienCung & Daugo caves. Stop at a desert beach for swimming and Kayaking. Overnight at Hotel in CatBa.

Day 2: Catba Trekking and Kayaking ( B,L.D)
8h00: Have breakfast at the hotel. Take motobike to AngVa, local guide take you to visit Ang Va1, Frog lake, AngUop , Ang Thinh Linh, Where you can go fishing, swimming, have lunch with the sea food by yourshelf. 12h00: Continue to go to Vem cave. Fishing people will take you to La Ha bay, you can ride Kayak boat by yourshelf to visit Pearl farm. Mokey feeding area at Cat Dua.
16h00: Back to Beo port to visit sea animal - feeding area.
17h00: back to the hotel. Overnight in Cat Ba

Day 3: CatBa -Haiphong -Hanoi. ( B,L )
AM: Breakfast. Morning is free for swimming. Lunch at restaurant. 14:30 Pm take a high speed boat to Haiphong. Bus pick up and transfer to Hanoi.
PM: Return to Hanoi. Arrive Hanoi at 18h30.
