Located on the Adriatic coast in the south of Croatia and on the famous Dalmatian Coast, the city of Dubrovnik has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most picturesque towns of the Mediterranean. Rich in culture and history the old town of Dubrovnik dates from the 13th century and still remains as it was, surrounded by ancient city walls and their towers.

Inside the pedestrianised old town are historic churches, sculptures, galleries, fountains, bell towers, monasteries, gardens and restaurants. The city’s rich cultural life includes Dubrovnik theatre and cinemas as well as Dubrovnik Film Festival and Dubrovnik Summer Festival, which are held every July and August.

Attractions in Dubrovnik

The main attractions to be seen in Dubrovnik are the Franciscan Monastery, Dubrovnik City Walls, the Dominican Monastery, Luza Square, Onofrio's Fountains, Pile Gate, St. Blaise Church and St. Ignatius Loyola.

Dubrovnik: Wonderful city but try and avoid peak season

This is one of my favourite Med cities - but not during the peak of high season in July and August when the streets are crammed full with people. If you have a choice of when to travel, try May, June, September or even a winter break. The old medieval city is intoxicating - on my last visit I did a walk around the city walls at sunset stopping for a sundowner en route - a great way to appreciate the old city.
