Vietnam is becoming an increasingly popular diving destination due to its diverse population of fish and coral, superb underwater scenery and even whales and whale sharks.
Nha Trang, Whale Island and Con Dao have some of the best diving spots in Vietnam, Easily accessible these dive sites house an amazing variety of beautiful and rare marine life including flatworms, mantis shrimps, saddleback anemone fish, gobies, ghost pipefish and glass fish, whale sharks and giant moray eels. The underwater moonscape hides some interesting caves to explore as well.
Dive sites include easy ones for beginners or more challenging spots for those that prefer to test themselves.
Attractions in Vietnam Dive Sites
At Nha Trang, Moray Beach and Moray Rock are shallow dives with strange rock formations, beautiful corals and marine life including scorpion fish, lion fish, clown fish, rare black frog fish and white frog fish. If you are lucky you can spot giant moray eels and the black spotted moray eel.
On Whale Island Hon Trau Nam or Three Kings is a stunning site for experienced divers to test their mettle. Here you’ll find yellow, purple or white gorgons, caves some 30 sea slugs species along with manta rays and even whale sharks. At Hon Kho Trang, a rocky islet 90 minutes offshore, there are a multitude of sea birds and two dive sites. On the first one you can explore rocks piles and on the second marvellous soft and hard corals garden. At Hon Tai, or Ear Island, dive over a coral plateau where you can meet nurse or white tip sharks. This site is one of the most visited and for good reason. Other sites include Napoleon Rock and Hon Lon amongst others.
180km from Vung Tao lies the remote Con Dao archipelago, much of which is a National Park. One of only two Marine National Parks in the country Con Dao is well preserved from a marine point of view having largely escaped the destructive fishing practices seen elsewhere in the country. There are over 1,000 hectares of amazing coral reefs well stocked with beautiful marine life. The sea grass meadows support a small population of dugong – reason alone to visit – but there are also hawksbill turtles that nest on the islands. Head there now to discover this little-visited spot.

Diving is available from reputable local operators – by far the best way to enjoy the sites in safety. Allow at least a week to get the most from any visit.

Getting Around
From Nha Trang city transport is available to Nha Trang and Whale Island; for other dive locations make arrangements with local dive specialists as they will be able to arrange accommodation and transport.
