Malaysia is fast becoming one of the leading dive destinations of the world with one of the richest marine environments in the Indo-Pacific Basin. The incredible bio-diversity of marine life, coupled with beautiful islands, white sandy beaches and clear warm waters, keeps divers coming back time and time again.
Top dive sites around Malaysia include diverse underwater geography such as sloping reefs, coral blocks, wall dives, deep dives, drift dives and wreck dives. With a concentration of vibrant and exotic marine life rarely rivalled anywhere else in the world, from schooling hammerhead sharks, to huge schools of barracudas and various species of turtles, there is always something fascinating awaiting you.
Sabah's coastline is dotted with islands and reefs which are home to some of the best dive sites in the world, the most famous of which are Mabul, Sipadan and Kapalai. Sarawak is more remote than Sabah. The most prominent diving here is in Muri where the shallow reefs are covered with corals and also a few wreck dives.
Malaysia became a truly global diving destination in the late 1980s, when the delights of the island of Sipadan was discovered being one of the best dive sites off the coast of Malaysia with an amazing proliferation of underwater marine life.
Kapalai is a unique dive destination surrounded by a huge coral reef. Its peaceful surroundings, sunrises and sunsets are breathtaking. Also noted for its sunrises and sunsets is the tiny island of Mabul which is surrounded by sandy ledges, a vast reef and an array of life including cuttlefish, blue-ringed octopus, spike-fin gobies, frogfish and moray eels.
The Layang Layang atoll with its awe-inspiring seascapes is one the most remote spots on earth. Its is the place for pristine corals, clear water, Gorgonian Forest, red sea whips, white tip, nurse and hammerhead sharks.
