The little town of Dhunche is the start of the renowned Langtang Valley trek that leads northeast to Langtang village and, further on, Kyanjin Gompa. It lies around 120km from Kathmandu and has a number of lodges where trekkers can spend the night before setting off.

The town is divided in to upper and lower Dhunche with the lower town being the main part of town, yet without lodges. These are found in the upper part of town, as is the camp ground.
