Dalat is located in the tropical mountain area of the central highlands of Vietnam. Its mild climate combined with amazing scenery, hill tribe villages, adventurous activities all make it a magnet for those wanting a cool retreat from the coast.
The central highlands of Vietnam have two seasons: rainy season from May to October and dry from November to April. With this climate and their topography they are home to thousands of rare plant and animal species: over 35,000 species of plant and 600 classes of animals can be found here, though not too many in the Dalat area. Many hill tribes live in the mountains surrounding Dalat.
Dating only from the early 20th century Dalat is famous as a honeymoon destination attracting hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese tourists each year; today growing numbers of foreign travellers are visiting keen to explore the mountains on foot and by 4WD.
Attractions in Dalat
A good place to start is Xuan Huong Lake; a circular walk can be made around its 7km circumference. The city has some notable French colonial architecture such as the railway station, the Palace Hotel and St Nicholas’s Cathedral. Also in town is Lam Ty Ni Pagoda whilst two more pagodas – Thien Voung and Linh Phong can be found out of town. Most people come to Dalat, however, for the scenery. Local tour operators can arrange bike riding, treks and even rock climbing in the area.

Get out and about and leave Dalat’s honeymooners to the town and enjoy some walking or biking.

There are several bars to relax in in town and there are some great restaurants in town.
Getting Around
The town is small enough to explore on foot.
