Colesberg is a South African town in the Northern Cape and on the main road from Cape Town to Johannesburg. It is a travellers' oasis offering many attractive sites, activities, and accommodation.
In a sheep-farming area spread over half-a-million hectares, greater Colesberg breeds many of the country’s top merinos. It is also renowned for producing high-quality racehorses and many stud farms, including one owned by legendary golfer, Gary Player, are nearby.

Colesberg was founded in 1830 on an abandoned station of the London Missionary Society and named after Sir Galbraith Lowry Cole, then Governor of the Cape Colony. Early travellers called it Towerberg which means the Magic Mountain. The district of Colesberg was proclaimed in 1837 and became a municipality in 1840.

Attractions in Colesberg

Major landmarks in Colesberg are the Colesberg-Kemper Museum, the Anglican Church, the Doornkloof Nature Reserve, the Vanderkloof Dam, the Anglo-Boer War tour and Suffolk Hill.
