Located in northeast Botswana and home to some of the greatest concentrations of wildlife found in Africa, Chobe is Botswana’s second largest national park covering 10,566 sq. km of pristine wilderness. Its uniqueness in the abundance of wildlife and the true African nature of the region, offers a safari experience of a lifetime.

The park is essentially divided into three quite distinct game-filled eco-systems – Serondela, Savuti and Linyanti, with the Chobe River and Ngwezumba region adding further scenic variety. The nearby riverside town of Kasane provides easy access to the northern area of Serondela, with a sandy track leading to the Chobe River waterfront from Sedudu gate.

Attractions in Chobe National Park

Taking to the waters on a river safari provides a different perspective on wildlife in this area, with sightings of hippos, crocodiles and birdlife almost guaranteed. Elephant are also a big attraction in Chobe – an estimated 60,000 to 120,000 live in the park – considered to be the largest elephant population on the planet. Coming across huge herds on a safari game drive is undoubtedly one of the highlights of a visit to this popular national park. Savuti, by contrast, is famous for its predators – in particular lion and spotted hyena.

A 4WD vehicle is essential. Visitors travelling through the park should remember that this is essentially a wilderness area and, as such, no services are available between Kasane and Maun. Because of this, it is wise to carry basic safety items such as water, food, fuel, torches, extra wheels, tools, jacks and pumps.
