Chisui is a town of both history and culture as well as an important archeological centr. Its origins date back to Umbro-Etruscan times, it experienced great expansion between the 7th an f5th centuries BC and subsequently was occupied by the Romans.
The city was the seat of the Longobard Dukes, then came under the influence of Orvieto and then Siena; for a short period it became a free city before being surrendered again to Siena and, thereafter became part of the Dukedom of Florence.
Today Chiusi is a flourishing country town, with great railway and motorway links, easily accessible from Rome and Florence it is the jumping off point for Pienza, Chianciano, Montepulciano, Orvieto and Cortona.
