Located in the Grand Atlas village of Tanaghmeilt, and about 150 kilometres north-east of Marrakech, the Cascades d'Ouzoud are one of the most breathtaking places in Morocco and probably the most prettiest falls in North Africa.

The falls are the most visited site in this region. The surrounding landscape is made up of idyllic green valleys, mills, orchards and the dramatic gorges of the El Abid river (or Slaves river in Arabic). The Cascades d'Ouzoud represent a complex network of waterfalls that cascade one into another through three major and several minor drops.

Ouzoud means olive in the Berber language referring to the nearby olive trees.

Attractions in Cascades d'Ouzoud

Visitors to the Cascades d'Ouzoud can visit the great lake of Bin Elwidane; or Afourar, a small town at the top of the Atlas; or drive through Beni Mellal towards the Berber village of El Ksiba to spend the night in a mountain hotel.

Relaxing

Swimming is possible at the bottom of the falls. Access is through a shaded path of olive trees. As the sun begins to fade whole troops of baboons can often be seen playing in the twilight - very surreal.

Getting Around

Grands taxis are available from Beni Mellal.
