Areches-Beaufort is located between Mont Blanc and Vanoise, in the heart ofthe Savoie and just 20km from the former Winter Olympic city of Albertville. A small village it is the ideal base for walking in summer and for winter skiing.
Beaufort along with Areche has a reputation as being a 'Little Tyrol' and has preserved its authentic atmosphere are and great charm.
Walkers can choose from many trails where they will undoubtedly meet the 'alpagistes' who live on the mountains throughout the summer with their herds. From mid-June to mid-September, the alpagistes gather the herds and move from chalet to chalet following the mountain grazing which is rich in flowers and gives Beaufort cheese its typical nutty flavour.
Here in Beaufort you'll discover old wooden chalets, a rich green and blue landscape, amazing flora, the chamois, deer, ibex and marmots as you explore. Walking routes over 253 km of marked tracks are available to suit all abilities at altitudes of 500 and 3,000 metres.
Beaufort is also a cross-country biking centre with over 100 km of circuits, it has a famous via ferrata, climbing, cannyoning, archery, swimming pool, tennis courts, leisure centre, horse riding, paragliding and a whole range of events: shows, concerts, cinema, children's events.
In winter the skiing is exceptional - pistes which snake through forests and chalets with Mont Blanc as a backdrop. There are 13 lifts to pistes between 1,050m to 2,300m,
50 km of pistes for alpine skiing and 35 km of cross-country skiing tracks. Snowshoe trekking is popular and there are many routes.
Beaufort provides activity year round and is a destination to be recommended.
