Located in a valley of waterfalls and hot winds in the province of Tungurahua, Baños has become an interesting destination for international travellers seeking a temperate climate all year round and exploring outdoors Ecuador.
Baños is a city in eastern Tungurahua Province in central Ecuador, located on the northern foothills of the Tungurahua volcano. The city is known as the "Gateway to the Amazon" as it is located on the Pastaza River in the Amazon River basin. It is named after the hydrothermal springs of mineral water located around the city.
Baños is in a valley forming a "biological corridor" between two national parks namely the Sangay National Park facing northward on the right side, named a World Heritage and a kind of continental Galapagos, and on the left side the Llanganates National Park.
Attractions in Baños
They include Cerro Hermoso, National Park Los Llanganates, Baños Zoo, and La Basílica de la Reina del Rosario de Agua Santa. Nearby waterfalls include Virgen de Agua Santa, Ines Maria, Agoyan, El Manto de la Novia, and Pailon del Diablo.
This Andean village is surrounded by snowcapped volcanoes and has wonderful thermal springs. The impressive snowcapped volcanic peaks that surround Baños are respectively Tungurahua, Chimborazo, Altar, and Carihuairazo.
Travellers can also visit nearby towns namely Riobamba, Puyo, as well as the coast and the Amazon River.
