Alleppey or Alappuzha as it is also known, is located in the Alappuzha District of Kerala in southern India. This market town is known for its natural beauty, picturesque canals, backwaters and lagoons which are home to rare migratory birds. Alleppey beach is one of the most beautiful in Kerala with coconut trees framing a wide expanse of sand and turquoise waters. An old lighthouse here offers fantastic views.
In the town itself you can discover Alleppey’s quaint streets, Keralan architecture, and its colourful markets packed with rice, green coconuts, red chillies, and jack fruit.
Boating through Alleppey’s calm backwaters, between lush coconut trees on a thatched houseboat is a peaceful and ideal way to explore Kerala.
