Australia Travel Guide

When to Go to Australia

To get the most out of your next adventure it makes sense to consider some of the very local factors that combine to make up what you feel is the best time to travel to a destination. Many of these factors are very personal - some people prefer to travel when the weather is not too hot, or sites too crowded - others prefer to travel when a traditional local event is taking place. Taking into account the dates of public holidays can also make sense as these may have an impact on opening times of attractions, shops and restaurants, or might affect public transport or other services. Conversely public holidays can be a time of great local festivities and celebrations providing a feast of local expressionism and culture.

Climate

Due to the enormous size of Australia, the climate varies dramatically from state to state and from north to south and east to west. Any day, anywhere you will find the right climate conditions that will make your Australian experience unique and memorable.

The Australian summer from Dec-Feb is warm and sunny and you can enjoy lazy days on the beach and typical Aussie meals cooked on the barbecue. Summer is the rainy season in the tropical regions in the north that brings lush rainforests to life. Spring and autumn are mild and are the best seasons for bush walks and discovering nature.

The Australian winter Jun-Aug is generally mild, but offers snow on the snow fields in the southern mountain regions. At the same time the northern states have balmy 24 degrees Celsius temperatures.

No matter where you are in Australia or what season it is, always remember your sunscreen. The Australian sun can be quite srong, so it's best to wear a shirt and put on a hat while enjoying the great outdoors. Sunscreen containing SPF30+ coverage is recommended.

Seasonality

Travel during Australian school holidays can be particularly busy in popular locations, beach resorts and National Parks, so may be best avoided if seeking a quieter period.
