Money, Currency and Cards in Poland

Local Currency

Zloty (PLN)

General Advice

Nowadays, with Poland's modern banking system and abundance of ATM cashpoints it is easy to obtain local currency with bank or credit cards. Euros, US Dollars and GBP Sterling are widely accepted at exchange offices.

Money Exchange

Foreign currency can be changed at either main banks of the Polish Kantors - small private banks, who usually offer you the best rate of exchange. In the larger cities some will even be open for 24 hours a day. Avoid changing money in hotels where possible as they usually offer very poor rates and high commissions.

ATM Availability

ATM services are continually expanding and are now available in all major cities and towns in Poland. For more information check the Visa ATM locator, the MasterCard ATM locator or the American Express ATM locator for the addresses of ATMs around the world.

Credit Cards

Credit cards are becoming increasingly accepted. Credit cards and debit cards should be used with caution due to the potential for fraud and other criminal activity.

Travellers Cheques

Traveller's cheques are becoming increasingly accepted.
