Local Currency
New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
General Advice
The unit of currency is the New Zealand Dollar, this is supplemented by notes and coinage minted for local use. The unique local coins and notes are not negotiable outside the Cook Islands, but are keenly sought by collectors worldwide.
Money Exchange
The main banks, Westpac and ANZ, in downtown Avarua are open Monday to Friday 0900-1500, Westpac also opens on a Saturday Morning 0900-1200. Westpac bank has an exchange and departure tax service available at the airport open for all international flights, located in the International Arrivals Terminal.
Western Union in Avarua also offer exchange.
ATM Availability

Credit Cards
Most major credit cards are accepted at main shops and hotels.
Other Information
Outside Rarotonga banking serves are extremely limited.
