Getting Around Togo

Buses

Buses, minibuses and bus taxis operate from Togo to all major towns.  Travel can be slow with drivers often stopped by police check points.

Taxis

Taxis are widely available in Lome, fares should always be agreed before starting journey.

Car Hire

Cars can be hired in Lome, however it is not recommended to hire a car - the best way to see the country is by organised tour, or by hiring a car with driver.

Driving

Driving is on the right hand side of the road.  The main roads through the country are tarmaced, other roads can become impassable during the wet season.  Police checks are frequent throughout the country.

Trains

Togo has a rail service between Lome and other southern towns.

Boats

Ferries operate to Lome from the neighbouring countries of Benin and Ghana.

Other

Togo is easily accessible from its neighbouring countries of Benin, Burkina Faso and Ghana by bus or bush taxi.
