Getting Around Réunion

Buses

The local bus company ‘Car Jaune’ operates throughout the island. The main St Denis bus station is on Boulevard de l’Ocean where you can obtain a current timetable and buy tickets. Tickets can also be purchased from the driver. The 'Car Jaune' buses are yellow and easy to spot, they operate between the hours of 0600 to 1800 with a less frequent service on a Sunday.

Taxis

Taxis are available in all main towns on the island.

Car Hire

There are many car hire companies on the island. A self-drive tour is a highly recommended way to see the island though take care to choose a reputable company.

Driving

Driving is on the right side of the road. The island does not have any motorways and has only 74km of dual carriageway. Some of the inland roads are narrow with tight hairpin bends, notably the road to Cilaos. With Reunion’s dramatic scenery, driving around the island can be a really exhilarating experience, however always beware of local drivers who may drive far too fast and close. On some of the minor roads leading into the Cirques, beware of the sunken roadside channels that drain rain water...a tyre in these will leave you stuck!

Trains

There is no train service on Reunion.

Boats

There are no main ferry routes around Reunion. However the Mauritius Pride and the Mauritius Trochetia both operate several times monthly between Reunion and Mauritius.
