Getting Around Peru
Buses
There are regular bus services between all Peruvian towns, though quality of service and timings can vary depending on what line you go with.
Comfortable 'executivo' buses operate between all major towns and cities, but can book up fast. It is advisable to get your tickets early for these.
Taxis
There is usually a taxi available on every street corner in Peru.
In certain areas, for security reasons, it is advisable to book your taxi through your hotel or restaurant.
Car Hire
Car hire is possible in Peru, but be prepared for some very long journeys and some irratic drivers on the roads.

Driving
Driving in Peru is potentially hazardous. Journeys can be long, quality of roads poor and other drivers unpredictable.
If driving, it is strongly recommended that you only do so in daylight and always keep your vehicle parked in secure parking areas.
Trains
There are several railways in Peru, which are well worth experiencing.
The full day journey from Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca, and over the incredible Altiplano to Cusco should not be missed.
Anyone travelling to Machu Picchu will enjoy time on the train to or from Cusco, with its famous switch-backs as it climbs.
There is also an occasional service from Lima to Huancayo, deep in the Andes.
Boats
Boats are the main form of transport in the Amazon region, as well as on Lake Titicaca.
