Getting Around Libya

Buses

Buses offer the cheapest and safest way to travel in the country, main bus companies offer air-conditioned vehicles, beware - journeys can be very long.

Taxis

Shared taxis operate throughout the country.  Smaller black and white cabs operate in Tripoli - always negotiate the fare before starting the journey.

Car Hire

Cars can be hired in main cities, rates are high and vehicles are unreliable.

Driving

Do not drive at night - many roads have no markings and many cars have faulty lights.  Beware of camels crossing!

Trains

There are no public railways in the country.

Other

It is possible to travel overland into Libya either in your own vehichle or shared taxi or bus, from Tunisia or Egypt.
