Kyrgyzstan is an adventurous destination for the most intrepid of travellers, where high plateaus and soaring peaks have for centuries sheltered a nomadic population with strong traditions. From the capital Bishkek head out on treks in the Tien Shan Mountains and climbs to some of the 23 peaks over 6000m – Khan Tengri, Pobeda and Lenin Peak all providing plenty of challenge.

Explore on foot, by bike and horseback or in a 4WD to discover alpine meadows, deserts framed by snow-capped peaks, glaciers such Inylchek and to experience the hospitality and friendliness of the Kyrgyz people.

Then there are the salt-mines of Chon-Tuz, the “southern capital” of Osh, Tash-Rabat – an ancient fortress built in the 10th century and Lake Issyk-Kul. You can sleep in a yurt and learn something of the nomadic past of this enticing destination – the adventure never stops!
