Located some 450 km from the African mainland coast of Senegal, the volcanic archipelago of Cape Verde is an off-beat Atlantic Ocean destination. For anyone addicted to islands, Cape Verde offers a wonderful diversity of breathtaking landscapes, an array of activities, vibrant music and a distinct culture. Comprising 10 islands and 8 islets, Cape Verde is full of contrasts – from black sand beaches and volcanic peaks to fading pastel-coloured colonial architecture and turquoise-blue waters.

Brava, Fogo, Santiago, Sao Nicolau and Santo Antao each offer excellent hiking possibilities. From cobbled paths winding through lush tropical ribeiras to a snaking lava trail to the summit of active Mount Fogo, these islands offer simply magnificent scenery. Sal, Maio and Boavista are more suited to beachgoers and watersports enthusiasts with long white sand beaches, turquoise seas and challenging waves. For music, art and culture, Mindelo on Sao Vicente is the place to be.
