Famous throughout Oman and indeed Arabia the Wadi Nakhr gorge is a highlight of a visit to the Akhdar range. Make your way to the village of Al Khateem for fantastic views, then trek down to the rockwall dwellings below; beyond on the valley floor is a secluded lagoon that can be a pleasant swim stop. The view from Al Khateem shows how the rock plunges some 1,500m straight down. A walk taking some 5 hours can be made around the rim of the canyon.
