With many biblical associations Wadi Feiran is steeped in myth and legend as well as being one of the Sinai’s most enchanting spots. It is here that Moses struck the rock with his staff to bring forth water and where the Hebrews struck their camp of Rafadim. There are the remains of several churches dating from the 4th century when the wadi became a staging post for pilgrims on their way to Mt Sinai and St Katherine’s. The wadi also contains the largest oasis in the Sinai with 4 km of palms running through it whilst the steep valley walls emphasise a feeling of mystique and seclusion.
