The entire west part of Pico island is criss crossed with the black lava walls which would go all the way round the world if put end to end. Within each tiny field is usually either one of two vine plants. The work that has gone into constructing these walls is awe inspiring! Stop at an adega or the local cooperative and try the produce of the vines – table wines and fortified Verdelho wine.
