Sat high on a hilltop 15km west of Udaipur lies the dramatic 18th century ‘Monsoon Palace’, from whose battlements breathtaking views of the Mewar countryside can be enjoyed. Built by Maharana Sajjan Singh to house an observatory and planned as a towering nineteen-storied structure it was abandoned following the Maharana’s untimely death and later used as a palace and hunting lodge. Now derelict the palace dominates the skyline 2468 feet high on top of Mount Bansdara. It is visible from a great distance and is illuminated at night.
