Most of Teguciglpa’s main sights can be covered on foot. A good one-day tour would include the Parque Central and the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel (more commonly known as simply ‘the Cathedral’) to people-watch and admire colonial religious art; The National Art Gallery to see one of the finest art collections in Central America; La Villa Roy, a hillside mansion now housing the National Museum of Honduras; La Leona Park, for views over the city; and Buenos Aires neighbourhood.
A major city is, of course, not complete without its high-end commercial district. After time in Honduras’ backwaters you may need to do some shopping, or fancy some urban luxury. If so, visit Boulevard Morazan, ‘la zona viva’, order yourself a latté and catch up with an international newspaper.
