The Tawi Attair translates as ‘the well of birds’ and is a vast sinkhole some 150m in diameter and 211m deep - one of the largest to be found anywhere. The birdsong which can be heard in the area gives the hole its name. Cavers do make the descent but it’s perhaps wisest for non-cavers to peer over the verigo-inducing edge...
