Located on the west bank of the Victoria Nile is a plaque marking the spot from where the River Nile commences its long journey through Uganda, Sudan and Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. Locally named as the 'Speke Memorial' or 'Source of the Nile Plaque' it marks the spot where Speke stood when he first sighted the Nile's source in July 1862.
