The islands offshore from Sihanoukville have very limited places to stay – Koh Russei, known as Bamboo Island, is one of the few places with basic bungalows. Nevertheless they make for a great day trip for some swimming and snorkelling.

Koh Russei is justifiably the most popular being accessible as is rocky Koh Pos (Snake Island), only 800m from Sihanoukville’s Victory Beach. Koh Koang Kang is a little further away, around an hour, but the beaches are better as is the snorkelling.

From November to February, the islands to the south - Koh Kteah, Koh Crhaloh and Koh Ta Kiev have some good snorkelling as they are more sheltered. Travelling further afield now is Koh Rong Samlem – 2.5 hours or so but said to be worth the extra time because of its amazing north coast beaches.

Other beaches to consider for diving are Koh Tang, Koh Prins, Condor Reef and Koh Rong.

Accommodation suppliers in town can help arrange boat trips, or if a diver there are dive companies in town (quality unknown).
