At 1600m Sarankot sits atop a ridge with fine Himalayan views. Most people come here for dawn views of the mountain which are indescribably beautiful if the weather is clear. There are two ways to get to Sarankot – by vehicle, or – a preferable option – on foot. The path is a long and slow ascent up steps passing through a variety of small communities along the way – a mini trekking experience in many ways. There are several basic places to stay once you arrive in the village varying in quality. The panorama in the morning makes the basic lodge facilities and long walk up and down well worthwhile as the horizon encompasses the 8167m Dhaulagiri all the way to Machhapuchhare (6997m) and Annapurna II (7937m).
