A short walk from Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the San Cristóhel Interpretation Centre, which gives an excellent overview of both the human and ecological history of Galápagos and its conservation. The Centre also offers talks, concerts and exhibitions from time to time, so be sure to look out for these.

From here there is an excellent short walk up to Las Tijeretas (Frigate-Bird Hill). The view from the top is stunning, as it overlooks the island, the town and the bay where Darwin first arrived in the Galapagos. The hill gets its name as several species of Frigate are often seen here.
