The Archaeological Complex of Moray is slightly off the beaten track, but is both impressive and distinctive in its design and style.

Described locally as an Inca agricultural laboratory, the most important part of the site are the deep pits of concentric circular terraces, known as muyus. Each terrace is said to have its own individual microclimate, depending upon its height and distance from the centre, which apparently reproduced all of the agricultural conditions used by Tahuantinsuyo society, enabling the farmers to cultivate a variety of different crops,

The largest structure is 45 metres deep and average height of each terrace is two metres, making both a striking and beautiful structure built deep into the earth.

Some believe Moray has important mystical values, others see the site as an important agricultural experimentation centre for the Inca.

There are not usually guides available at the entrance to Moray, although the wardens are often willing to tell visitors more about the site. To be sure of a complete tour, it is recommended that you arrange a guide through your Travel Expert.
