Ollantaytambo village is one of the oldest settlements of the valley and is still inhabited today. Like a living relic of an ancient town, many of the buildings, walls and aqueducts are original Inca stonework.
Located 97 km north west of Cusco, Ollantaytambo is at the furthermost-point of the Sacred Valley and is the end of the road. From here, to head on towards Machu Picchu, the only option is by foot or by train.
Ollantaytambo is also home to one of the most impressive and important archaeological sites of the region, which includes a fortress, temple, agricultural terraces and hill-top food stores, and should not be missed.
Guides are available for a small fee plus tip, but you may prefer to arrange a more complete tour through your Travel Expert.
