Once belonging to Fatma el Zahara, King Farouk’s first queen, the Royal Jewellery Museum is housed in a magnificent villa, recently undergoing restoration. As the name indicates the museum contains some of the magnificent jewellery that belonged to the Ottoman rulers of Egypt through to Farouk. The villa itself is noteworthy and contains 10 stained-glass doors which tell stories from European history. Look out for Mohammed Ali’s gold snuff box, a gold knob encrusted with diamonds which once belonged to Fuad and a gold and enamel chess set pus many many more eye-popping treasures.
