The area around Ras al Jinz and Ras al Hadd, Oman’s most easterly point, is known for its scenic beauty and as being a nesting site for endangered green turtles. A visit to the area can be tacked on to a loop through the neighbouring Wahiba Sands.
The region’s Turtle Beach Nature Reserve was established in 1996 and visits are controlled under the watchful eyes of local staff who escort visitors onto the beach to watch the female turtles coming ashore to lay eggs. Hatchlings can also be seen making their way to the water just before dawn.
