Also called ‘Jeanette Kawas National Park’, after the activist who lost her life trying to protect this area, Punta Sal is considered one of the most important National Parks in Honduras.
The 782 square km of protected territory includes humid tropical forests, mangrove swamp, coastal lagoons, rivers and canals, rocky and sandy coastline, coral reef and ocean. Some 500 species of plant have been identified along with 232 animal species, many of them endangered.
