The small town of Champasak was once the seat of the Royal Family and yet is today a backwater of the Province to whom it has given its name. Just a couple of earth roads and wooden shops, a few temples and some colonial buildings characterise it today and yet it was at the time of the French Mekong Expedition a bustling city. For all that it’s worth a look as you visit Wat Phu which lies close by.
