The Old Treasury building literally housed the proceeds of the Gold Rush in its historic vaults. Now part of the City Museum, they're a little low on bullion but there’s plenty of information to be gleaned including how mid-1800s Melbourne was rapidly transformed from quiet colonial outpost to bustling boomtown. As well as offering a guided glimpse into Victoria’s social and cultural past, the City Museum also showcases contemporary art and crafts.
