Behind the modern town of Manah lies the ruins of a much older village. Dotted with mosques the ruined settlement is thought to be the first resting place of Malik bin Fahim al Azdi who lead the Azdite Yemenis into Oman when the Marib Dam broke 1,800 years ago; a falaj in Manah still bears his name. The mosques are interesting with decoration of Chinese plates and elaborate mihrabs (prayer niches) whilst many buildings have decaying, carved wooden doors.
