Named after the late King Mahendra, Mahendra Cave lies to the north of town and is a limestone cavity whose interior has been eroded by the action of water. The limestone gives the Seti (‘white’) River its pale colouration. Only a little has been explored and whilst there is electric lighting a torch is a wise accessory. There are stalactites and stalagmites to see. Further on lies a 'Bat Cave' where thousands of bats make their home, hanging from the roof of a cave. The caves are an easy walk or cycle ride from town.
